About

Curious about the work.
Serious about the outcome.

Margin Business Systems is a founder-led business systems consultancy for small businesses that want thoughtful, practical improvement—not another piece of technology to manage. When you work with Margin Business Systems, you work directly with me.

Lachlan · Founder

An engineering mindset, applied to everyday business problems.

I am drawn to the work that sits between people and systems: understanding how a process really operates, finding the friction, and building a simpler way through it.

My background in mechanical engineering and hands-on work with modern automation tools shapes the way I approach each project—ask good questions, understand the constraints, test carefully, and make the result easy to use.

The point is not automation for its own sake. It is fewer late nights, less avoidable admin and more capacity for the work that moves your business forward.

How I work

Approachable by default.
Clear where it counts.

01

Listen properly.

The people doing the work usually know where the friction is. Good systems begin by hearing them.

02

Keep it practical.

A small, useful improvement beats a grand solution that never becomes part of the day-to-day.

03

Make scope visible.

Everyone should understand what is being worked on, what success looks like and what sits outside the engagement.

04

Leave capability behind.

You should understand the finished system and feel confident using and maintaining it—not become unnecessarily dependent on its builder.

Make Better Sundays

Bring one process that takes more time than it should.

Efficiency is not the end point. Better systems should mean less avoidable admin, chasing and rework; fewer things carried in one person’s head; and less work spilling into evenings and weekends. The first conversation is simply about working out whether there is something worthwhile to improve—so there is more room for the business, family, rest or whatever matters to you.
